Anyways.. inspite of these complications... you  can still install maven in in 2 steps.

wget http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/dchen/apache-maven/epel-apache-maven.repo -O /etc/yum.repos.d/epel-apache-maven.repo

yum install apache-maven

Yay ! But your not done yet. 

Maven is installed to /usr/share/apache-maven/...

so update your symlinks etc accordingly if you want to use the sleek "mvn" invocation that we all know and love.
