Sun's VM has junky hot code replacement. The replacement fails ifyou change a class signature.
IBM's JVM is reputed to be much more flexible for hot code
replacement. It's on my list of stuff to try out tomorrow with
lift. I'll send around a report.
In terms of Actors, one can have a method that dynamically creates
the partial function that's passed to react/receive. Depending on
how that method creates the partial function, one could imaging doing
hot code swapping pretty easily.
