internet users connect to Private networks.
It can be used to restrict Internet Clients to have direct / unrestricted access to private networks.
It can loadbalance the requests from internet clients to the clustered environments in private networks to reduce the load on individual intranet servers [private network].
It can also be used to cache information for faster access and reduced traffic.
It provides better security by hiding the actual server which servers the request (application server /content server), as the internet client can only see the reverse proxy server serving the request but never actually knows about the re-direction to the Application/content server.
